Work surfaces have come a long way in the past few years, with so many options in green materials available how does one chose the best option for the job. We must first consider the space and its use. Not all materials are appropriate for all situations. For our Green Room we installed a bamboo counter top for our computer catalogues. We thought this would be a great way to show the beauty of the bamboo as well as offering an option for using the material in design. Not only was the price point right where we needed it to be, it was purchased from a local vendor with a small charge for a small delivery charge. Once the counter was in place we added a clear water based sealer to the surface of the counter to protect it from wear and tear. Finding the bamboo material was not easy. There are plenty of vendors all over the country ready and willing to ship you large slabs of bamboo. Our obstacle was finding one in our area that was affordable, that stocked the item we needed. It took weeks to find a vendor that could meet all of our needs. In the end it was worth the work, the counter looks great and completes the space perfectly.
